Our Leadership

Elders and Deacons

The Session

The Session is the governing body of our local church, in accordance with the polity of the Presbyterian Church in America. It is composed of ruling elders and teaching elders (the pastor). These men are ordained to shepherd the congregation, oversee its spiritual life, guard its doctrine, administer the sacraments, and provide spiritual oversight for the church’s ministry and mission.

The Session is responsible for the overall spiritual leadership and governance of the church, seeking to lead in faithfulness to Scripture and in service to Christ and His people. Currently the make up of Cliffwood's Session is three Ruling Elders and one Teaching Elder.

The Diaconate

The Diaconate is the body of ordained deacons who serve the church by attending to its ministry of mercy and practical needs. This includes care for the poor and needy, assistance to members in times of hardship, stewardship of benevolence resources, and support for the orderly functioning of the church’s physical and logistical needs.
In keeping with our understanding of Scripture and the practice of our church, the office of deacon is held by qualified men who are set apart for this service. The Diaconate works closely with the Session to ensure that the church’s care for its members is carried out faithfully and compassionately.
